A good friend of mine who is suffering through some life difficulties sent me a music video this morning that inspired me. This friend is going through a terribly dark period in their life, and their future is unsure. We spent last evening praying together. It was heartening to have them share a video that is so full of hope the next morning.
It’s not easy to wake up each morning with a new perspective, a new hope for the day. That is especially true when tough things happen and we feel as if we’re spinning out of control. How many of you have experienced rejection, harassment, bullying, sickness, money problems, relationship issues, or depression? How about the death of something, whether an idea or goal you’ve worked toward, or maybe even the death of someone you know or love? These are just a few wrecking balls that invade our lives which knock the breath out of us. We become smothered in our circumstances, and though the sun may shine on our faces, we can feel no warmth.
Too often we feel alone in our suffering and it’s as if no one else has such a messed up life. The truth is that nobody lives a perfect life. No one. Everyone has something: a fear, an insecurity. Trouble happens to everyone because we don’t live in a perfect world. We see the good in other people’s lives and compare it to the worst in our own and we end up believing we don’t measure up.
As a teenager, I grew up in an alcoholic home. I really thought no one could understand what I was going through. It was a lie I told myself that I believed for far too long. I’ve been bullied and rejected. I’ve had heart-wrenching, soul-crushing things happen to me. Eventually, I found people I could share my sorrows with, a safe place to share my deepest fears and pain.
Having someone to share our burdens with is a great way to ease the bleakness which surrounds our hearts, our very souls. Talking about our fears can help us face them. We overcome and the darkness recedes and leaves us with renewed hope. A way to see new promise in every day.
And where there’s hope, we find we can survive another day. The sun will once again warm our faces and we can breathe again.
So, for those of you who are struggling today, here’s a video that inspires me and gives me hope. May it lift your burdens and ease your pain. I pray it gives you hope.
To you, my friends. You are not alone.
