Great fantasy and also fun for my teen/preteen
I loved the book and it’s so nice to have another good fantasy. This is my daughter’s review below.
It starts the adventure quickly and holds you captive until the end, with comedic parts sprinkled throughout; heavily sprinkled. I thought Tambrynn’s bouts of exasperation were hilarious, and while there was definitely romance it is not mushy, nor does it prevent the characters’ development. Unfortunately I will not live until the next book comes out because the wait is killing me.
*I should also add my preteen is now enjoying it too!
If you’re a teacher this book should be on must read list for your students.
Woodencloak is a wonderful book for Middle School Children but the perfect book for families to read together as the Princess overcomes things happening to her. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat in a good way. If you’re a teacher this book should be on must read list for your students. – Glenda Cates

This young adult novel was at times endearing, heartbreaking, and overall charming. There was plenty of angst, romance, mean girls, and life problems to go around, but the characters felt so real I was almost afraid I was back in high school again:) That said, I would definitely recommend this book to any teen girl or young woman. It doesn’t sweep tough issues under the carpet as though they don’t exist, but it doesn’t glorify them either. The author writes about underage drinking, dating, and broken families with finesse. This novel made me laugh and cry, and trust me that is no easy feat.

What a fabulous debut from Dawn Ford! Knee-high Lies is a gritty and realistic page-turner about one teen’s bravery and perseverance when life keeps knocking her down. Despite all the problems thrown Avery’s way, she never gives up. Now she’s not perfect by a long shot, but that’s what makes her so relatable. And those *knee-high lies* she tells to protect herself end up hurting her, as they always do. We can learn a lot from Avery’s experience.
What an adventure!
This book took me on a magical adventure that I truly loved!! I was captivated from the beginning and could hardly put it down. I can’t wait to see where Tambrynn’s adventures will take her next!! – Amazon Customer
Age Appropriate reading
My 13 year old granddaughter loved this book and is looking forward to the next book in the series. And so am I!
Amazing read
I enjoyed reading about Tambrynn and her journey with Lucas, Audhild, and others. This was a page turning tale and I am looking forward to reading book two, A Girl With Fire in Her Veins ❤️🔥📚
Scary fun romp through the world of magical creatures!
Poor Horra. What could be worse than stuck in Goblin Court, seated in a too-tall and too-hard chair, wearing a prickly dress? Then she has to give a tour to two fairy princesses, who think they’re all that and a bag of chips. And before the end of the day, she’s running for her life.
Great writing complete with magical creatures, a mysterious world, and a resourceful heroine! – believer
Perfect for the middle grade student in your life
As a middle school teacher for twelve years this is a wonderful story of perseverance and bravery that my students would love! All of these are things children need to read about, especially these days, especially as they are forming themselves at this pivotal time in their lives! – Jennifer Lynn
Explore a world completely new!
I love these characters. Please take the time to visualize these creatures as the characters described. The author does such an amazing job of letting us see them and know them. Take the time to allow yourself to understand them, making the adventures and action seem so real! Excellent! Can’t wait for future books! – Pam S
