Hello, my friends! It has been a long time since I last contacted you. Never fear, I’ve been hard at work writing and revising my Genesis Award-winning portal fantasy into a stronger version to be sent out to a publisher who requested it last year. If you’ve wondered why my social media posts have dwindled in the past few months, this is why.
I wanted to take a break and share with you all some good news I received yesterday. I entered my portal fantasy in a fantasy romance contest and I am a finalist! I have tweaked the submission and will be resending it for final reviews and should hear something by May on how it does in the last round.
If you don’t know what portal fantasies are, they are any fantasy that takes you from one world or time into another one via a gateway point. Think books such as The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe in the Chronicles of Narnia or Alice in Wonderland. This particular story is about a poor, servant girl whose strange appearance labels her as a witch by the superstitious people surrounding her. What she doesn’t realize is she is not from her current kingdom, but from a different one where magic is the norm. She needs to return to her home kingdom so she can learn to hone her unique abilities before an evil mage has the opportunity to steal them from her. He and his beasts are hot on her trail. My heroine gets help from a most unexpected creature—a bird that transforms into a man, someone who has been with her and keeping her safe from the evil mage her whole life. Together they find the doorway to the next kingdom and embark on an epic journey of love, faith, and sacrifice.
I’ll keep all my followers updated on any new news that breaks out. Until then, wish me luck on the revisions and for the contest.
