Let’s meet our heroine, Tambrynn (no last name–who needs one?). She was born with silver hair and star-shaped pupils in her gray eyes. She lives in Tenebris, a superstitious and non-magical kingdom. She believes she’s cursed because of her out-of-control ability to call objects when she’s upset.
A few facts about Tambrynn:
Her gift of telekinesis gets her into more trouble than a longtail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
Her mother was viciously murdered by wolf-like beasts when she was eight-years-old.
She’s almost sixteen–the age she leaves servanthood behind.
Her resume includes: working long hours for no pay and scraps to eat, avoiding people’s unwanted attention by wearing a hooded shawl, cleaning the ash from fireplaces then rubbing it in her hair to hide her defective silver tresses, feeding chickens and gathering their eggs, and having everyone stare at her because she’s different.
She likes: moonlit walks across Tenebris, sparring with troublesome magpies, helping younger servant girls avoid the pitfalls of being naïve, removing unseemly moles from irate cooks, and accidentally-on-purpose making her Mistress boss fall on her backside after throwing Tambrynn out for an honest mistake.
What she hates: brown-nosing maids, angry cooks, having arrows shot at her while she’s flying, blizzards, birdcages, nasty, undead wolf-beasts, and her evil, mage father who longs to steal her abilities.
